Sue Thomas can finally reveal her role as part of a specialist team commissioned by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to work with Nokia Siemens Networks, one of WWF's global partners.

In a worldwide review of corporate sustainability, which was initially the subject of a stringent non-disclosure agreement, Sue interviewed key players from Argentina to India, and from Singapore to Finland.

The research underlined the links between sustainability, business risk and corporate strategy. Sue has long been interested in the complex interplay between leadership and sustainability.

Exciting times for Formoda, we will shortly be launching details of a great new website we have been developing and news of some exciting new projects coming in but immediately is the exciting news of the new offices we are moving into tomorrow.

Set in the beautiful and historic Devon village of Berry Pomeroy, the Byre is part of the Duke of Somerset's estate and we are really pleased that the Duke feels we are a welcome addition to the estate.

Everyone who has seen the new offices has the same reaction "Wow!". Set in beautiful countryside, this converted barn has been decorated to a very high standard and has exactly the right feel for a creative agency like Formoda. We feel that this will aid our creativity and take our graphic design and website development to new heights.

You may remember that 2 years ago I was in team from Bibby who tackled the 3 Peaks - some of you kindly sponsored me.

Well this year we are at it again - gluttons for punishment! - doing a slightly less manic but still demanding trek, climbing the tallest 3 peaks in Yorkshire. The team will be climbing Penyghent (694m, 2277ft), Whernside (736m, 2415ft) and Ingleborough (723m, 2372ft) and cover approximately 23 - 25 miles with a total ascent of 1672m, 5486ft within 8-14 hours.

This is a big challenge for us, but we are doing it all for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. We want to raise as much money as possible, we know it is hard times for a lot of people at the moment....so donations of any amount would be great, it doesn't matter how small the amount.

Despite increasingly difficult trading conditions in 2008, the Somerville in Torquay celebrated a record year and early bookings for 2009 are already showing signs of another record season.

The current owners, Adam Millward and Grant Chapman, have been busy upgrading the hotel since they purchased it in 2004 and have been awarded a five star, silver award grading in recognition of the standard of accommodation on offer.  Adam Millward, commented,

We have managed to keep these fees at the same cost for over 4 years and have recently been making a loss on meetings as venue fees increase. As many people have already booked for the January event, we will not be increasing the fees until the February event.

 

Also we feel that the increased member fees should not effect many as they are still much, much lower than other business networking groups and to cover the minimal expenses we incure - advertising, admin fees, printing, website fees, card holders and the occassional special costs (such as Chris the magician).

The new website for the National marine Aquarium was launched by South Devon Business Club member, Website Vision Ltd, in April 2008.

Based in Plymouth, the aquarium is Europe's deepest and Britain's largest aquarium.  The enormous tanks contain over 4000 animals from 400 species including sharks, turtles and sea horses, which are displayed in realistic habitats from local shorelines to coral reefs.

The new website has been a huge success with more than 20,000 people per month logging onto the website to find out about the various aspects of the aquarium.

To further enhance the features on the website, a digital ticketing system was integrated into the website and the ticket sales desks in June 2008.  Within it's first month of going live, the ticketing system was generating a substantial volume of online bookings and the management reports provide the marketing department with a raft of useful information to further streamline the aquariums marketing strategy.

The latest addition is an ecommerce merchandise shop which went live in November and has already sold a wide range of products - from fluffy 'Finding Nemo's through to red letter day experiences such as 'Be a Shark Keeper for a day'.

The entire website is powered by a bespoke content management system that allows members of the aquarium to edit and update the contents of the website in-house via an intuitive, functional and user friendly system.
