Sue Thomas Coaching unleashes the power of the team
News Article:
Earlier this month, Sue Thomas Coaching successfully completed an innovative six month programme to build the leadership skills of a forward-looking South West public sector body.

The programme interwove leadership training workshops with team coaching sessions and one-to-one coaching sessions, set against the backdrop of a major organisational restructuring exercise. "The team found it particularly useful that the sessions took place during the months of major change", said Sue Thomas, director of Sue Thomas Coaching . "This gave them the opportunity to work on the real skills they needed to make the changes while keeping staff morale up."

"We tested the team confidence ratings in their leadership capacity in January, when the programme started, and again in July", she continued. "Confidence ratings for individual leadership capacity increased by an average of 37 percent. Confidence ratings for the team capacity went up by a massive 63 percent as they started to work together more effectively and understand one another's strengths better."

Marketing to Consumers
News Article:
As part of the marketing mix for their new Homecover range of domestic utilities Safeheat have used the Post Office to deliver promotional leaflets to a range of local postcodes. We have distributed 145,000 leaflets using their Door-To-Door delivery service. We wanted something that would enable us to promote the Homecover brand quickly and aside from cinema advertising direct mail is considered to have the second highest retention of brand by consumers. Consumers are one of the hardest markets to target as traditional press advertising is very short lived and relatively expensive for a new company or product to get their message across. In total we have spent about £8-9k to design and print the brochure and deliver them across South Devon. The Post Office give you access to the MOSAIC system to find out where your potential market segments live. Our experience has been that because they have a minimum drop of 50k leaflets this is of only limited use if you are looking to cover a small area such as ours plus you have to send the leaflets to the whole postcode. However if you wanted to target larger urban areas it would give you a very good idea of which postcodes most closely match your customer profile. See http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/rm/content2?catId=36400684&mediaId=22800497 To compliment this we had four new vans sign written with the Homecover logo and contact details, changed our Thompson’s and Yellow Pages entries to promote the service and continued to use Parish Magazines as an alternative to press advertising. On the subject of classified directories I am not a huge fan where you are going to be in a section with a lot of competitors simply because how do consumers choose. One new innovation is that Thompson’s are going to give Nectar points in their latest directory mainly to try and steal custom from Yellow Pages but we are going to give it a go, as it is free. I’ll let you know how it works. The tip from Yellow pages is to not just put your name or the company name as the headline, we’ll all proud of our companies I know but is your name what your customer is looking for? We fell into this trap but are now trying a friendly headline selling our services with the company logo much smaller in a less prominent position.

Taking on British Gas
News Article:
Safeheat have begun marketing of their new Homecover maintenance contracts for domestic gas and electric heating. This is in direct competition with the British Gas product Homecare. “Maintenance agreements for this sector are growing at over 25% per year,” comments Safeheat Managing Director Tony Brimble. We are very involved in maintenance of social housing in this area and thought we could offer a more locally based and cost effective solution for our customers. Homecover will offer a variety of plans to cover other domestic utilities as well as your heating so that you can have peace of mind that if something goes wrong with your electrics, plumbing or drains there will be a fast response. Safeheat have teamed up with Sherwood Electrical of Torquay whom they contract all the work on electrics to. “We have worked together for sometime now and the two companies have a similar ethos of customer service that made us decide to team up with Sherwood’s to deliver our new Homecover contracts” comments Safeheat Company Manager Nick Williams.

Sue Thomas Coaching navigates the Isles of Scilly Council toward better staff relations
News Article:
Sue Thomas Coaching has recently completed an intensive series of workshops with the Council of the Isles of Scilly to improve relationships between managers and staff and help everybody understand where they fit into the bigger picture.

"The Isles of Scilly is a fascinating place to work" says Sue Thomas, Director. "Because it's a small place it's easy for the senior managers to assume that everyone knows what is happening and what plans there are for the future. But there is still a need for formal communication so that managers and staff can sit down together, one-to-one, and discuss the goals they are working towards, review performance to date, and plan development needs for the future."

Sue added "By introducing a simple but formal structure for everyone in the Council to address their personal performance and development needs the Council can be sure that all members of staff have the opportunity to recognise the contribution they are making to the bigger picture. The workshops have been the first exciting step."
